St. Maria Goretti
Maria
Teresa Goretti, a poor Italian virgin-martyr, is one of youngest
canonized saints of the Roman Catholic Church. She died from multiple
stab wounds inflicted by her attempted rapist after she refused to
submit to him. Maria had forgiven him though on her deathbed.
Beatification ceremonies were held in the Saint Peter's Basilica in 1947
by Pope Pius XII, while the canonization ceremonies were held in the
Piazza San Pietro.
Maria is the patron saint of the youth, of chastity, purity, forgiveness and poverty.
